2-year senior technician at the Department of Biosciences, Oslo, Norway

Biology as a discipline has in recent decades experienced an explosion of data-acquisition resulting from technological innovations. This development affects most biological fields, and will cause a corresponding development of our understanding of nature. This is one of the main reasons for the current century is called ‘biology’ century ‘. With this development comes special responsibility for biologists to make sure that knowledge ensured good channels in society.

Department of Biosciences

Institute of Sciences (IBV) is one of the largest departments at the University, and the competence of IBV is highly relevant to society. IBV cover a wide range of biology and research in the department is about understanding the fundamental biological processes of molecular and cellular level to population and ecosystem levels.

IBV is therefore seeking for a senior communications a 2-year commitment. The position will be related to the department’s management and will be in close cooperation with scientists, student administration and school laboratory for biology.

Responsibilities

  • Be an active promoter of Biosciences and provide general support to IBVs researchers for popularisation of research
  • Be the department’s point of contact with media
  • Contribute to adding a media strategy in advance of publications with particular relevance to society and / or newsworthy
  • Sharing responsibility for the department’s web pages, especially science communication and internal communication
  • Primary responsibility for IBVs accounts on social media, including Facebook, Google Plus, Instagram and Twitter
  • Make training of scientists for pressure management and conduct introductory sales of interviews and editorials related to events and visits
  • Act as head of the department’s dissemination group

Qualifications

Applicants must have education at university or college, minimum equivalent bachelor level Biosciences as well as comprehensive experience from communications work. Formal qualifications in the dissemination and communication is an advantage but not a requirement. The successful candidate must have good communication skills in both English and Norwegian, able to work independently but also work well with others. Personal fitness will be considered important.
