30 Masters/PhD grants under Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship, Singapore (2015)

General information: The Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is a competitive and prestigious scholarship scheme designed to encourage outstanding graduates or final-year students to take their first step towards a leading research career by studying for a doctoral degree programme (PhD) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), one of Asia’s leading research universities. 

Number of grants: Up to 30 NPGS awards will be made available in each Academic Year. Funding will be provided for up to 4 years for NPGS awardees.

Requirements / Qualifications –

  • First Class Honours degree or equivalent at Bachelor’s level and
  • applicants should also demonstrate excellent research abilities.

Important Information:

Degree inferred:  During the first year, you will be expected to take relevant courses and to work towards passing the qualifying examination. In the event that this qualification is not met, there will be no conversion to a Masters degree for the NPGS

Stipend and other allowances
The NPGS award terms are:

    a) Monthly stipend of S$3200*

b) Full support of tuition fees

c) Conference allowance up to S$4,000 per financial year (April previous year to March current year)

d) One-time IT allowance of S$1500

e) Annual grant of S$500 for journal subscription or book purchase

f) Thesis preparation allowance

g) Priority will be given for subsidised campus accommodation

* With effect from 1 August 2015, students will receive the following monthly stipend

  • Singapore Citizens – $3,500
  • Singapore Permanent Residents – $3,200
  • International students – $3,000

Teaching
Upon passing the qualifying examination, NPGS awardees will be expected to undertake some undergraduate teaching (up to a limit of 10 hours per week). Awardees will be reimbursed if their teaching hours exceed what is required by the framework of their PhD training. Undergraduate teaching contributions will demand a high level of English language proficiency and you may be required to undertake English language courses as necessary in your first year.

The application for Academic Year 2016-17 (August 16 and January 17) will be opened from 01 October to 30 November 2015.
