Faculty position in analytical chemistry (Assistant professor) in Sweden

The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor shall be assessed for promotion to associate professor. Research, teaching, and supervision. The teaching will mainly be on basic and advanced level.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Swedens technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes Architecture, Industrial Management and Urban Planning. There are a total of 12,400 full year students at first and second levels, almost 1,900 active (at least 50 per cent) research students and 5,100 employees.

The subject for the employment concerns analytical chemistry with emphasis on experimental work. The subject includes both basic areas as e.g. spectroscopy, separation techniques, mass spectrometry and electroanalysis, and applications like for example environmental analysis, bioanalysis, and analytical chemistry within the fields of materials and energy.

Eligibility

A person is eligible for appointment if they have attained a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise. Primarily, persons should have attained a Degree of Doctor or have acquired the equivalent expertise no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

In the assessment scientific expertise shown for example through international publication is of special importance. Pedagogical potential and ability to contribute to teaching in analytical chemistry within, among other areas, spectroscopy, chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, and electroanalysis, is of significant importance. The applicants long-term development potential is also o f significant importance, as is t he applicant’s ability to establish and develop cooperation within research and education , as well as the ability to take responsibility as group leader and establish independent research.

Experience from other research environments than KTH is also of importance. It is of importance that the applicant will be able to take responsibility to enrich and renew their and the divisions research.

In addition, the applicant’s expertise in developing and leading activities and personnel is of importance. This includes having knowledge about matters of diversity and equal treatment, with particular focus on gender equality.

The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to disseminate information regarding research and development work will also be taken into account.

Special grounds of assessment for promotion to associate professor

When assessing applications for promotion to associate professor, the applicant’s ability to independently initiate and carry out research of high academic quality, published in international publications, and the applicant’s ability to obtain financing for research operations will be assessed. One special ground for assessment is the applicant’s ability to independently establish new collaborations and research specializations. Special consideration will be shown to displayed teaching and supervising expertise.

Ability to teach in Swedish is of significant importance for the application of promotion.

The employment will be at the department of Chemistry, division of Applied physical chemistry, where the group of Analytical chemistry has at their disposal a number of new instruments for separation and mass spectrometry (GC-MS, nanoLC-MS, ESI-MS, MALDI-MSMS, CE-MS etc. ). Moreover, the school for Chemical science and engineering is building an Analytical platform including several instruments of different kinds, which will be available for everyone at the school. In addition to this, at the three departments of the school there are instruments that can be utilized when not in use
