Google PhD Student Fellowship Program 2831 views

The Google PhD Fellowship Program was started to recognize outstanding graduate students doing extraordinary work in computer science, related disciplines or promising research areas.

The Google PhD Fellowship Program provides the opportunity to study in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Mainland China. International students are eligible to apply for this fellowship program.

Fellowship is available to pursue PhD program.

Fellowships would be given to study subjects from among the following areas/disciplines:

  • Mobile Computing
  • Natural Language Processing (including Information Retrieval and Extraction)
  • Robotics
  • Computational Neuroscience
  • Machine Perception, Speech Technology and Computer Vision
  • Machine Learning
  • Systems and Networking

Applications will not be accepted directly from students. They would be required to contact their departments to find out if their university is one of the eligible universities, or to receive additional information.

Scholarship Award: The fellowship would be awarded for 1 year. It would consist of:

  • US$10K: to cover travel expense including overseas travel, stipend and other research related activities.
  • Google Research Mentor
  • Opportunity to join Google global annual PhD Fellowship Summit
  • Opportunity to apply for a paid summer internship (but not guaranteed and not required)

 Number of Scholarships: Six

Scholarship can be taken in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Mainland China

Eligibility:

  • Full-time graduate students pursuing a PhD in the research areas represented by the fellowships
  • Must be nominated by their department/university
  • Must have completed their graduate coursework in the PhD program and going to begin or continuing their graduate research in the fall of 2018
  • Must attend one of the eligible schools and universities.
  • Student must remain enrolled in the PhD program or lose the fellowship award
  • Students who have already received the fellowship from other companies are not eligible (but not conflict with those from local government).
  • Google employees and family members of Google employees are not eligible

 Nationality:International students are eligible to apply for this fellowship program.

 College Admission Requirement

  • English language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level.
  • Entrance Requirements: Applicants must be full-time graduate students pursuing a PhD in the research areas represented by the fellowships.

How to Apply: Students cannot submit their own application. Nominations and application materials must be submitted directly by the university. For each student nomination, the university will be asked to submit:

  • Student CV
  • Transcript of current and previous academic records
  • Name of fellowship for which student is being considered
  • Research/dissertation proposal (recommended length 4-5 pages, no longer than 8)
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation from those familiar with the nominee’s work (at least one coming from the thesis advisor)
  • All application materials should be in English

Each eligible university can submit a maximum of two student nominations.

The students who may be in department other than Computer Science but also pursuing their research in the computational sciences can be nominated.

Note: Given that the fellowship areas overlap, Google may choose a different fellowship for that nomination. Nominations and applications materials must be sent. Committees of eminent researchers and engineers from within Google will review all applications.
