Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding; Dr. Angela Merkel Scholarship

DAAD offers Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding; Dr. Angela Merkel Scholarship for Master’s degree (LL.M.) in European Law at one of the selected German Universities. The scholarship is dedicated to highly qualified graduates with a first university degree in law (Bachelor or equivalent) who in the future want to actively contribute to the academic or economic development of their home countries. The scholarships are offered both for young graduates without professional experience and for young professionals.

Duration: 1 (One) Year

Scholarship Value:

  • Stipend of EURO 750.00/month
  • Cost of air fare from India to Germany and back
  • university tuition fees waiver
  • study and research aid
  • health insurance
  • 2 months German Language Course in Germany (free); tuition, boarding, accommodation plus pocket allowance during the period of the German language course (preceding studies)

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold First class Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • There should not be a gap of more than 6 years between the award of last degree and application deadline.
  • Applicant must be located in India at the time of application.
  • Applicants who have been residing in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application, are ineligible to apply

Application requirements:

Two sets of the following documents arranged in the order mentioned below:

  1. Application form with a passport-size photograph attached to each form (ensure that both the forms have been signed)
  2. CV (bio-data)- Typed copy
  3. Copy of detailed motivation letter
  4. Two references from senior academics from the applicant’s field of study/research on the proforma. The referee’s title and academic status must be clearly indicated. These must be Confidential (in sealed envelopes)
  5. Copy of recent language certificate giving evidence of the applicants level of proficiency; TOEFL minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based) or IELTS (band 6) certificate; German Language skills** at A2 level
  6. Copies of all chronologically arranged academic certificates and mark-sheets (all copies must be attested; attested English translation (if the originals are in Hindi; Attestation can be done by a gazetted Government officer)
