The Marshall Scholarships were started by the British government to convey gratitude for the European Recovery Program. Each year up to 40 Scholarships are offered. The Scholarship funds transportation, tuition fees, personal allowance generally for two years of study (but can be extended for a third year).

Marshall Scholarship is acceptable at any university in the UK. Its goal is to promote US/UK acquaintances throughout the UK. The Scholarship welcomes candidates interested in studying at universities other than Oxford, Cambridge and LSE.

Marshall candidates shall also think of applying for the Thouron Award.

Eligibility:

  • Legal citizen of US by Oct. of the year in which applicant is planning to apply for the Scholarship
  • Hold undergraduate degree university not more than past four years.
  • Should have attained cumulative grade point not less than 3.70 at the time of applying for the scholarship.

Application Procedure:

  • Scholarship application form
  • Purpose of studies in UK
  • Testimonial describing academic and other interests
  • Letters of Recommendation, four in number
  • Academic Transcripts which clearly indicates your grades
  • Letter of approval from the University of Pennsylvania
  • Candidates shall register their recommender on the scholarship site
  • Recommender should submit their recommendations directly

Interview:

  • Selection and decision of award of scholarships is generally done by early November. The selection boards which are situated in British consulates in each of the eight regions in the USA will announce and call applicants for interviews.
  • Marshall Scholars are announced in early December.
