MPI for Gravitational Physics: Ph.D. and postdoctoral positions 1110 views

Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in invites applications for several postdoc appointments and PhD positions in Gravitational Wave Astrophysics. The postdoctoral positions will be available at different levels, depending on experience and seniority, and can last for different number of years.

The positions are available at Astrophysical and Cosmological Relativity division and the division is led by Dr. Alessandra Buonanno

Study areas:

  • theoretical gravitational dynamics and radiation (effective field theory, post-Newtonian theory, gravitational self-force approach, perturbation theory and effective-one-body formalism),
  • numerical relativity, most notably simulations of binary black holes and binary neutron stars,
  • interpretation and analysis of data from gravitational-wave detectors on the ground (LIGO and Virgo) and in space (LISA),
  • astrophysics of compact objects,
  • cosmography with gravitational waves from binary systems, and
  • tests of strong gravity within General Relativity and alternative gravity theories

Applications:

  • Application form (separate forms for PhD and Postdoc). Along with forms following materials are required:
  • Cover letter
  • CV
  • List of publications
  • Statement of research interests
  • Names of 3 referees for recommendation letters; rwill be notified by email on how to upload the letters (in case of problems referees could send the letters directly to gwjobs@aei.mpg.de).
