NCBS-MPI-CBG: Joint Postdoctoral Program of NCBS, inStem and the Max Planck Institute für Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) provides excellent training to scientists through a structured exchange program to encourage scientific collaborations between MPI-CBG in Dresden, Germany and NCBS/inStem in Bangalore, India. Every year there will be a call for collaborative projects, which must be proposed by two PIs, whereby one PI is located at the MPI-CBG, and the other at the NCBS/inStem.

Benefits:

  • Two year joint postdoctoral fellowship with annual review and renewal
  • The duration may be extended for one-year durations up to a maximum of four years (under exceptional circumstances)
  • At MPI-CBG, the fellows will be paid by a stipend at a rate of 2,300 euros/month (not taxable in Germany).
  • At NCBS/inStem, the fellow’s salary will be at a rate of Rs 90,000/month, (subject to tax)
  • Fellows must spend approximately equal amounts of time in Bangalore and Dresden.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must not have more than 4 years of postdoc research experience.
  • Applicant must work with the PIs to produce a 2-3 page research project proposal linking the Fellows’ interests with those of the host laboratories.
  • Applicants must be sponsored by a local host who is a member of NCBS/inStem/MPI-CBG Faculty.

Pre-application Process:

  • Applicants must directly apply to the participating PIs of the joint projects. The application package must consist of the following:
  • latest CV
  • 1-3 first-author publications (pdf format)
  • Minimum 2 references letters (e-mailed directly to the participating PIs)
  • After shortlisted by the participating PIs, applicant need to develop a research proposal with detailed plans and timelines of the project for 4 years, in close collaboration with your proposed hosts.
  • Deadline for sending the pre-application to the PIs is 15th February 2017.
  • Decisions about the short-listed candidate will be announced within 2 weeks after this deadline.

Final proposal submission:

  • Full applications consisting of the following to be sent by email as a single pdf package to acadoffice@ncbs.res.in and to farkas@mpi-cbg.de:
  • CV
  • Research proposal (max 4-5 pages with references)
  • 1-3 first-author publications (pdf versions)
  • Letter of support from your proposed hosts (e-mailed directly to acadoffice@ncbs.res.in and farkas@mpi-cbg.de)
  • Minimum 2 letters of references/recommendations (e-mailed directly to acadoffice@ncbs.res.in and farkas@mpi-cbg.de)

Important dates:

  • Stage 1: Joint Projects from the PI pairs accepted throughout the year.
  • Stage 2: Applications from nominated postdoctoral candidates accepted by the academic office (acadoffice@ncbs.res.in) from 1st March 2019 – 31st March 2019.
  • Decisions about the short-listed candidates will be announced within 2 weeks after this deadline.
  • Interviews and presentation by the short-listed candidates – Last week of April 2018.
