Two postdoctoral positions (Research Associates) are available on the topic of “Archaeology of Pre-Modern Economies” at the DFG Research Training Group 1878 (RTG) of the Universities of Cologne and Bonn Germany.

Positions are available from January 1st, 2017 and on April 1st, 2017. Salary will be according to the official German classification group (well supported) TV-L 13, 100% (for further detailed information kindly see our website: www.wirtschaftsarchaeologie.de/en). The positions are limited to March 31st, 2018 with the option to extend for up to max. three years.

The RTG studies economic systems and economic spaces of premodern societies in terms of their structure, efficiency and dynamics (transformation processes through to a potential dissolution, genesis) as well as to analyze them in interaction with their respective physical geographical, societal, political, cultural and religious conditions. The research will be focused along three lines: ‘Economic Networks’, Settlement Centres and Their Environs’ and ‘Religious Institutions as Economic Units’.

The candidates should have a background in one of the relevant subjects or related disciplines: Ancient History, Ancient American Studies, Archaeology of the Roman Provinces, Byzantine Studies, Christian Archaeology, Egyptology, Ethnology, Historic Geography, Classical Archaeology, Pre- and Early History , Islamic Archaeology.
