CERN offers Short term Internship program in technical or administrative field.

About the Program:

CERN offers a limited number of internships to bachelor’s students for practical training assignments. The students generally have technical or administrative backgrounds and their university requires or encourages them to spend a training period in industry or in a research establishment. The traineeship must form part of candidate’s studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • In order to be eligible as a trainee, the student must be 18 years of age.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a full-time higher education course (Students who have already started PhD studies are not eligible).
  • Applicant must be specialized in one of the following field: applied physics, computing, mathematics, electrical, electronic, mechanical or civil engineering, instrumentation for accelerators and particle physics experiments, materials science, radiation protection, safety and environmental protection, surveying, ultra-high vacuum, scientific communication.
  • Limited number of places may be available in administrative fields: translation, advanced secretarial work, accounting, legal services, human resources, librarianship, and logistics.
  • Applicant must have a good knowledge of English or French.
  • Applicant must return to their educational institution after completion of stay at CERN.
  • Applicant must have enough financial resources to support themselves in the local area

Important Information:

  • The appointment will be for duration of 1-6 months in any twelve-month period.
  • During the requested training period the student must remain enrolled in an educational institution
  • Applicant must have a medical insurance covering illness & accidents that is adequate in Switzerland and France

Selection Procedure

  • Please note that only a limited number of places are available.
  • Applications will be considered by the probable supervisors who wish to host a student.
  • Only students whose applications are under concern will be contacted by department of the selecting supervisor.
  • Not selected applicants will be informed of the results by email approx one month before the desired start date.
