Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program 1431 views

The Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program is the Smithsonian Institution’s centrally-funded leading fellowship program. These Fellowships are granted every year to scholars seeking to conduct independent study or research at one or more of the Smithsonian’s 19 units and research centers.

The Fellowship Program is open to:

  • Graduate Students
  • Pre-doctoral Students
  • Postdoctoral Researchers and
  • Senior Researchers

Graduate Student Fellowships:

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Applicant must be formally enrolled in a graduate program of study at a degree granting institution.

Pre-doctoral Student Fellowships:

  • Duration: 3 to 12 months
  • Applicant must be registered in a university as a candidate for Doctorate degree or equivalent.

Postdoctoral Researcher Fellowships:

  • Duration: 3 to 12 months
  • Applicant must have completed by the time the fellowship begins.

Senior Researcher Fellowships:

  • Duration: 3 to 12 months
  • Applicants must have held a Ph.D. or equivalent for at least 7 years.

Note: All applicants for SI Fellowships, irrespective of academic area, are eligible and automatically considered for the Secretary’s Distinguished Research Fellowship, which provides the awardee with a IInd year of support.

Stipend Allowances and Taxes:

  1. Graduate Student Fellowship: $7000.00 for 10 weeks
  2. Pre-doctoral Student Fellowship: $32,700 annually; research allowance- up to $4,000
  3. Postdoctoral Researcher Fellowship: $48,000 annually; research allowance-up to $4,000.
  4. Senior Researcher Fellowship: $48,000 annually; research allowance-up to $4,000.

Eligibility:

  • Fellowships are open to United States nationals and Non-US nationals.
  • Applicants, non-native of English language are expected to have the ability to write and converse fluently in English.
  • All application materials must be provided in English.
  • Past or current fellowship recipients are eligible to apply for another award.
