The School of Ecology and Environment Studies at the Nalanda University invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant/ Associate Professor/ Professor in various fields listed below. Nalanda is a post graduate international research university and is designated as an institution of national importance in India.

The university takes its name and draws inspiration from its ancient predecessor which remains the oldest known centre of organized higher learning in the world. The University has commenced its academic programmes with two Schools: Historical Studies and Ecology and Environment Studies. The School of Ecology and Environment Studies embraces a broad range of academic pursuits from natural sciences to social sciences in order to promote education and research on the interactions between human activities and the natural environment.

The School endeavours to become a prominent academic institution addressing pressing local, regional and global environmental problems through education, research, collaborations and policy recommendations. The School offers a twoyear master degree and is also developing a PhD programme. Given the inter-disciplinary character of the School, the University has appointed a core faculty drawn from natural sciences and social sciences. Applicants to all positions must be fluent in English as it is the medium of instruction in the University. For the rank of Associate Professor and Professor, a PhD is essential and for the rank of Assistant Professor, a PhD is desirable and submission of thesis is a pre-requisite.

  • Ph.D. in economics or a closely related field with a specialization in energy economics and renewable energy.
  • Broad expertise in energy production from renewable and low-carbon sources in addition to energy generation from fossil fuels.
  • S/he is expected to teach and conduct research on all aspects of energy systems from exploration, production, transmission, consumption, market, institution, and policy issues.
  • Previous teaching experience with high ratings of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity or strong potential for scholarly contributions.

4: Food and Agro Eco Systems The successful candidate will have:

  1. Environmental Health The successful candidate will have:
  • Ph.D. in environmental sciences, chemistry, biology or closely related field or M.D. in public health with a specialization in environmental health sciences, epidemiology or toxicology.
  • Broad expertise in various types of pollutants such as particulates, gases, dissolved materials, water, toxicity, point and non-point sources, trans-boundary and global pollutants and expertise in human health impacts of a variety of these pollutants.
  • Previous teaching experience with high ratings of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity or strong potential for scholarly contributions.
  1. Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Environmental Studies The successful candidate will have:
  1. Disaster Studies/ Disaster Management The successful candidate will have:
  • PhD in Geography, Environmental Sociology, Political Science or Environmental Psychology or a closely related field with a specialization on disasters, vulnerability, resilience and adaptation.
  • Demonstrated expertise on disaster management planning, prevention, mitigation, disaster preparedness, humanitarian intervention, community and public participation etc.
  • Strong fieldwork skills as evidenced by completed, empirical research projects.
  • Previous teaching experience with high ratings of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity or strong potential for scholarly contributions.
  1. Biodiversity and Conservation The successful candidate will have:
  1. Environmental Modeling The successful candidate will have:
  • Ph.D. in any branch of environmental study with a specialization in environmental/ ecosystem modelling.
  • Candidate will have a strong background in mathematics/ physics/ information technology. § Broad expertise in Analysis & Modeling of Ecosystem Data, Environmental Foot printing, spatial and temporal processes.
  • Previous teaching experience with high ratings of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity or strong potential for scholarly contributions.

Further Details for all positions • Candidates must be highly motivated to work for the vision of the new Nalanda University. • Candidates must demonstrate significant scholarly potential and promise of excellence, along with teaching effectiveness at the postgraduate level. • Candidates are expected to develop collaborations with other tertiary institutions and/or research institutions including raising funds for research projects. • Candidates are expected to contribute toward student advising, curriculum development and other services, including but not limited to administrative tasks, in the School and University • Candidates must have an ability to work collegially with faculty members drawn internationally and having diverse disciplinary interests. • Successful candidates are expected to teach between 1.5-2 courses per semester for the Master’s degree as well as support the Ph.D. degree programme at the School. • A selected candidate is expected to provide support to other positions in the case of absences. • Successful candidates are expected to perform a broad array of administrative services that are vital to supporting and sustaining the quality and effectiveness of the University and its programmes.
