PhD student for the project “Next generation pulmonary delivery of therapeutic peptides“: Aalto University is a new university with over a century of experience. Created from a high-profile merger between three leading universities in Finland – the Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and the University of Art and Design Helsinki – Aalto University opens up new possibilities for strong multidisciplinary education and research.
The Nanomaterials Group at the Department of Applied Physics, Aalto University School of Science is hiring a highly motivated PhD student for the project “Next generation pulmonary delivery of therapeutic peptides”

In this project, we aim to develop novel particulate systems for the pulmonary delivery of peptide drugs. The focus is to learn and create fundamental concepts for stable, controlled and efficient pulmonary delivery of peptides. The student will study the formation and molecular assembly of peptides’ solid state structure upon droplet-to-particle conversion in the aerosol flow reactor. A special focus is on the formation of the peptide assembly and its influences on delivery properties via pulmonary route. The novelty and innovativeness of the pulmonary peptide delivery research emerges from combining the separate know-how of molecular self-assembly and formation of nanoscale encapsulation and coating layers for particle structures never done before, a modular aerosol method which enables to prepare particles for efficient lung delivery, introducing newly synthesized peptides with various molecular architectures which enable the self-assembled morphologies for controlled drug delivery and creating novel dry powder inhalation delivery platforms for pulmonary delivery of peptides.

The research is mainly carried out at the Nanohouse of Aalto University and collaborated with Pharmacy Technology group at Helsinki University and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in Japan.
