At Umeå University conducts research in functional brain imaging to a large extent within the framework of Umeå Centre for Functional Brain Imaging, UFBI (Director: Lars Nyberg). In collaboration with the Unit for Demography and Ageing Research (CEDAR) I seek now a driven person to my research, where we examine the effects on neuronal plasticity after training interventions.

Project description

The project PHIBRA is a longitudinal intervention study in which older individuals have been randomized to either cardio for 6 months or a control group. Before and after the intervention we have investigated cognitive functions, dopamine receptor availability (raclopride PET) and functional / structural MRI. The holder of the position is expected to be responsible for the analysis of MRI data (resting-state fMRI, perfusion and structural data). There will also be an opportunity to be involved in the analysis of PET data, as well as the initiative to data analysis or initiation of new projects to be desirable.

Qualifications

To qualify for appointment as a postdoctoral fellow you must have a PhD in cognitive neuroscience or corresponding area more than three years before the application deadline, and have scientific expertise relevant to the position. Demonstrated ability to conduct brain imaging research is required, and experience of resting-state fMRI analysis will be of particular merit. Good command of English both written and spoken is also a requirement.

Application

  • The application can be written in either English or Swedish and must contain:
  • A brief description of why you are interested and qualified for this position
  • Curriculum Vitae, med komplett publikationslista
  • Copies of diplomas and relevant publications
  • Name and contact information of two references

For further information about the position please contact Professor Carl-Johan Boraxbekk, (www.ufbi.umu.se/english/research/research-group-boraxbekk-cj ), email: cj.boraxbekk@umu.se

Application deadline is June 30, 2015, the starting date is 1 September or by appointment.

Postdoctoral position (2 years) in Cognitive neuroscience
At Umeå University functional brain imaging research is organized within Umeå center for Functional Brain Imaging (Director: Professor Lars Nyberg). In collaboration with center for demographic and aging research (CEDAR) I am looking for an enthusiastic person to join my research team investigating neural plasticity following an exercise intervention.

The candidate will work both in the context of Umeå center for Functional Brain Imaging (www.ufbi.umu.se) and the newly established research unit CEDAR, (www.ddb.umu.se/cbs).

Project description
The current project, PHIBRA, is a longitudinal intervention study in which elderly individuals were randomly assigned to either aerobic exercise for 6 months, or a control group. Pre and post intervention we examined cognitive functions, dopamine-receptor availability (Raclopride-PET) and functional/structural MRI. The holder of this position is expected to be responsible for the MRI-data analysis (resting state fMRI, cerebral blood flow and structural data). There will be opportunities to also be involved in analysis of PET-data, and any own initiative to analyze data or initiate new projects will be highly appreciated.

Competence requirements:
A successful candidate should hold a PhD degree in cognitive neuroscience or equivalent and have a strong record in functional MRI analysis, particularly the analysis of resting state fMRI. To be eligible for this position, you should have completed your PhD a maximum of three years before the end of the application period. Good skills in written and spoken English are required.

Application
A complete application for the position should be written in English or Swedish and include:

  • A brief description of why you are interested in and suitable for the position
  • Curriculum Vitae including full publication list
  • Copies of diplomas and relevant publications
  • Names and contact information of two referees

For further information about the position contact Associate Professor Carl-Johan Boraxbekk (www.ufbi.umu.se/english/research/research-group-boraxbekk-cj), email: cj.boraxbekk@umu.se

The application should be submitted by June 30 2015 at the latest, the employment may start September 1 2015 or as agreed.

Type of employment – Temporary position longer than 6 months

The holder of the position will be working both within the Umeå Centre for Functional Brain Imaging (www.ufbi.umu.se ) and drive for demographics and aging ( www.ddb.umu.se/cbs ).
