Doctoral Student position at Laboratory of Green Chemistry, Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). One approach is also to find new solutions to prevent and decrease environmental pollution.

The Laboratory is located in Mikkeli, Finland and Head of the Laboratory is Prof. Mika Sillanpää. In the past, the laboratory has specialized in water analysis and water, wastewater and soil purification techniques in following research areas:

  • Adsorption,
  • Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs),
  • Analytics and online monitoring,
  • Electrochemical technologies and electrokinetics.,

Doctoral student will be working in a research project where removal efficiency of microplastics in a municipal water treatment plant is studied. Furthermore, the release of microplastics into a lake will be monitored and their effects on the aquatic environment analyzed.

Requirements / Qualifications: The applicant must hold a Master’s degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in a relevant field (either in chemical engineering or chemistry is considered as an advantage) giving the eligibility for doctoral studies and have the ability and motivation to complete the doctoral degree in the target time of four years. The postgraduate study right required for taking the doctoral degree is to be applied within the one year of the beginning of the employment relationship.

The employment relationship is fixed-term. The position will be available initially for one two years and can be extended for another two years provided that the studies and research have progressed well.

Salary: The salary will be determined according to the university salary system for teaching and research personnel, job demand levels 1-4 (1795.12 – 2462.01 EUR/month). In addition, the salary will include an individual pay component based on the performance and competence, amounting to a maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific pay component.
