PhD positions in physics and chemistry Denmark 2015

PhD fellow in Submillimeter Astronomy: Niels Bohr Institute and Centre for Star and Planet Formation, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in submillimeter astronomy. The start date is flexible but preferably no later than January 2016.

Project description

The PhD candidate will join the research group of Jes Jørgensen at Centre for Star and Planet Formation and the Niels Bohr Institute. The group focuses on understanding the physics and chemistry of the earliest stages of star and planet formation with particular emphasis on observations of such systems using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and other telescopes operating at far-infrared and (sub)millimeter wavelengths as well as link to theory through detailed dust and line radiative transfer modeling. The successful candidate will be involved in the analysis of incoming data from a large ALMA survey focusing on the formation of complex molecules close to young stars in collaboration with other members of the group. Particular experience in long wavelength observations will be seen as a plus for the application.

Principal supervisor is Jes Jørgensen, Niels Bohr Institute and Centre for Star and Planet Formation (jeskj@nbi.ku.dk).
