Postdoc position in optical microscopy or spectroscopy

We are looking for those with extensive experience in optical microscopy or spectroscopy. Work with time-resolved and non-linear spectroscopy is a plus. Projects include the development of spatiotemporally super-resolved 3D microscopy methods using a combination of real-time 3D single particle tracking and super-resolution imaging methods, as well as developing methods which yield nanoscale biochemical resolution within cells, utilizing a combination of real-time 3D single particle tracking, hybrid plasmonic nanomaterials and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS).

The Welsher lab (welsherlab.org) is an interdisciplinary group aiming to push the limits of spatial, temporal and biochemical resolution in live cell microscopy. We are actively recruiting talented and motivated postdoctoral scientists to join the team.

With the development of these new methods, we are also seeking a molecular or cell biologist to apply these new techniques to map the entire viral infection pathway from the perspective of a single virus particle using new high speed 3D microscopy techniques (see Welsher, K. & Yang, H. Nat. Nanotechnol. 9, 198-203 (2014).  With these new high speed techniques, we aim to study the behavior of the virus before it interacts with the cell surface, allowing us to study, in real time, the role of the extracellular matrix.

Requirements:

For the optics position, a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or related field is required. The ideal candidate will have performed graduate work in optical microscopy or spectroscopy. For the biology position, a PhD in Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field is required. The ideal candidate will have experience manioulating plasmids for expression in mammalian cells. Experience in generating viruses or virus-like particles is a plus.
