We are seeking an outstanding Scientist to join the Small Molecule Analytical Chemistry and Quality Control Group. This laboratory-based position focuses on analytical characterization and method development to support Genentech small molecule lead compounds and early development candidate selection.The scientist will serve as the analytical representative at the interface of discovery analytical chemistry and technical development team, working in cross-functional project teams, collaborating with colleagues in Medicinal Chemistry, Discovery Analytical, Early Stage Pharmaceutical Development, Solid State Characterization and Process Chemistry. The scientist will use state-of-the art techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, GC, GC-MS, IC, FTIR, NMR, XRPD, DSC/TGA to solve complex problems and advance projects. The scientist will be involved in the identification, development, evaluation and implementation of new technologies. Position requirements include the following.

PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline (analytical chemistry preferred) is required.

Relevant experience of 0 to 6 years in the pharmaceutical industry will be considered. Outstanding candidates with less relevant industrial experience will be considered as Associate Scientist.

Strong scholastic record is required.

A strong publication record demonstrating research accomplishments is expected.

Must have strong fundamental knowledge of analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry.

Hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of chromatography and other core analytical techniques are required.

Must have the ability to interact and collaborate fruitfully with colleagues and have potential to supervise co-workers.

Candidates should have excellent communication skills, advanced problem solving capability, the ability to think strategically and have sound scientific judgment.
