The Computational Ecosystem Science group at the ETH Institute of Agricultural Sciences and the WSL Unit Forest Dynamics is inviting applications for a Postdoc position. The position is available within the project MIND – Next-generation modelling of the biosphere: Including new data streams and optimality approaches.
About the position:
- The selected candidate will leverage large forest inventory datasets and combine these in a Bayesian framework with a next-generation process-based Vegetation Demography Model to investigate forest dynamics in response to environmental change and interactions of ecosystem processes across scales.
- This work will lay the foundation for an Ecological Forecasting system in Swiss forests, using an extended diversity of observations.
- This position requires independent and creative thinking to find innovative solutions to a high-profile scientific challenge with a clear path to applications for designing forest management and achieving climate change resilience.
Requirements:
- Candidate must hold a PhD degree in a relevant area.
- Demonstrated experience with Bayesian statistical methods and forest dynamics modelling is highly desirable and excellent skills in informatics (Fortran, R, Python, High Performance Computing, Git) and statistics are required.
- A collaborative work mentality for the development of our computational infrastructure is expected
- Proficient English skills would be an asset
Applications:
- Apply online including the following documents:
- An application letter (max. 2 pages, with a statement of research interests and relevant experience)
- CV and a list of publications
- Copies of academic qualifications
- Names and e-mail addresses of three referees
