PhD fellowships in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Topological Quantum Computing

Project description
The Center for Quantum Devices plans to employ 1-2 PhD Students (experimentalists) to be part of a team of theorists and experimentalists focusing on the braiding of majorana modes in superconductor-semiconductor nanowires, as part of a Microsoft-sponsored research activity to build the components for a topological quantum computer.
Research activities will involve nanofabrication, robotic control of nanowire placement to build circuits, cryogenic measurement using a dilution refrigerator, nanosecond control of electrostatic gate voltages using arbitrary waveform generators, development of control electronics and software, and writing and publishing results.

Job description
The successful applicant will be enrolled as a PhD Student at the University of Copenhagen and possibly jointly with Delft Technical University. In addition to research, PhD students will take courses, teach at times, and participate in international meetings, conferences, and collaborations with partner laboratories around the world.
Qualifications
Candidates should have experience in an experimental physics laboratory, a bachelor, master, or an undergraduate degree in physics (or possibly computer science if accompanied by experimental physics experience) and experience with data analysis and programming. Additional criteria may include: grades, publications, and proficiency in English.
Formal requirements
The position is available for a 3-year period for applicants holding a relevant master’s degree or as an integrated master’s and PhD program by enrolling in a 4+4 or 3+5 program. This makes current bachelor students in their final year applicable to apply for the PhD fellowship.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 305,291 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 42,171). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
