The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in theoretical quantum optics commencing 1 September 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. Project description
The Ph.D. project can be in any area of quantum optics which matches the research activities of the theoretical quantum optics group. The main focus of the group is the physical implementation of quantum information processing, mainly in quantum optical systems but also in solid state systems. In addition the group has a smaller program on ultra cold atoms. The final Ph.D. project will be agreed upon by the successful candidate and the principal supervisor. Your key tasks as a PhD student at Science are:
- Manage and carry through your research project
- Take PhD courses
- Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
- Participate in congresses
- Stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad
- Teach and disseminate your research
Requirements
- A master’s degree related to the subject area of the project
- The grade point average achieved
- Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD program
- Previous publications
- Relevant work experience
- Other professional activities
- Language skills
Formal requirements
The position is available for a 3-year period for applicants holding a relevant master’s degree.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 305,291 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 42,171). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
