FMI (Friedrich Miescher Institute) International Ph.D. The program offers advanced, interdisciplinary training. Ph.D. students enrolled in the program get theoretical and practical training and carry out research projects under the supervision of an FMI group leader, supervised by a Thesis Committee of university prof. and experts are chosen by the student. The leader of the research group is the main supervisor. In addition, Ph.D. students are supported by a Thesis Committee of university professors and experts chosen by the student.
PhD scholars at the FMI are registered at the University of Basel. Entry to the program is available twice each year (May and November). Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews in June and January each year.
Requirements:
- M.Sc., Diploma, DEA.
- Applicants from USA require only Bachelor’s degree must have successfully completed courses in Biophysics and should have lab experience leading to a research thesis.
- PhD students are required to complete 12 semester hours of coursework during their Ph.D. research.
Subject Areas:
Together with the Biozentrum, Dept of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) at ETH, and Swiss TPH, the FMI joins in an international and interdisciplinary graduate teaching program in the areas of: infection biology, neurobiology, cell biology, developmental biology, biophysical chemistry, structural biology, systems biology, bioinformatics.
Student life:
The Institute has a lively student body that organizes seminar series and career guidance events. Here Ph.D. students also participate in the Annual Meeting to discuss science and presentations from postdocs, students, and group leaders.
