IMU: Scholarships for PhD Program, Mathemetics 1695 views

IMU – TWAS Breakout PhD Fellowships in Mathematics: International Mathematical Union (IMU), with the assistance of FIMU and TWAS is launching a fellowship program for supporting postgraduate studies, in a developing country, leading to a PhD degree in the field mathematical sciences.

Country: All developing countries

Minimum degree held: MSc

Duration: Up to 5 years

Field of study: Mathematical Sciences

Age limit: None

Sandwich option: No

Professional mathematicians are invited to nominate motivated and talented students from developing countries who plan to complete a PhD degree in a developing country, including their own home country.

Eligibility Conditions
  1. The nomination form has to be filled out online and be submitted by the nominator.
  2. Students cannot apply themselves for the fellowship.

Conditions for the Nominee (Student)

  1. The student must be
  2. A) residentAND
  3. B) a citizenof a developing country which must be contained in the IMU list of Developing countries. See here
  4. The student must either
    1. be pre-acceptedto join a doctoral program
    2. already be enrolledin a doctoral program in a university or research institution

Nomination for women students is strongly encouraged.

Scholarship covers: 

The following costs can be covered by the grant.

  1. Full tuition fee
  2. Accommodation expenses
  3. Travel expenses to the host institution (if different from the home country)
  4. Basic living expenses that will depend on the cost of the living of the country in which the student will study his/ her doctoral program

Material to be uploaded during the process: (Only files in PDF format can be uploaded.)

  1. Statement from nominator
  2. Scanned copy of student (nominee) passport
  3. Official letter of pre-acceptance in the PhD Program
  4. Budget of total expenses requested
  5. Two letters of recommendation which both cannot come from the nominator
  6. Transcripts of coursework (certified copies (e.g. stamped by the university) of the student

A) High school diploma

B) BSc degree or equivalent

C) MSc degree or equivalent

7. List of publications (if applicable) of the student

8. Nominee letter of motivation, research project and future plans of the student

9. Nominator declaration

10. Nominee (student) declaration

11. Both nominations and accompanying documentation must be submitted in English only.
