Postdoctoral for Non-Chinese in Medicinal and Chemical Biology China 5160 views

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in Fang lab, Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.  We focus on Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology of Bioactive Natural Products, and take a multidisciplinary approach to the discovery of novel anticancer and Alzheimer’s disease therapeutic agents.

We also strive to translate the knowledge gained in the basic research into the discovery of new drug target and relevant bioactive molecules. Recent research project is focused on targeting of microtubule (MT), microtubule associated protein (MAP) and MT-MAP protein-protein interactions.

Eligibility:

Non-Chinese citizenship; Fluent in English; <35 years old; Ph.D. degree obtained within one year.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to ligand- and/or structure-based design, and hit to lead/lead optimization.
  2. Synthesize, purify and characterize biologically active compounds.
  3. Develop new synthetic approaches to novel small molecules.
  4. Understand biological results, summarize SAR and propose additional modifications.
  5. Contribute to scientific paper and patent preparation, and possibly get involved in research grant competition.

 Requirements:

  1. Ph.D in synthetic medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, or relevant fields.
  2. Passion for drug discovery and genuine curiosity for novel approaches to improve the drug discovery approach and generate better clinical candidates.
  3. Solid understanding of modern structure determination methods and separation techniques, and fundamental understanding of organic reaction mechanisms.
  4. Proficient in SAR elucidation in drug discovery including hit to lead and lead optimization.
  5. Experience in organic molecules of complex structure will be given priority.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 Preferred expertise:

  • Hands on experience in molecular modelling, especially using DiscoveryStudio softwares, is preferred.
  • Proficient in manipulating analytical and preparative chromatographic instruments (e.g., MPLC, HPLC and LC-MS), is a plus.

Salary:

Besides basic salary 160,000 RMB per year, performance-based award is expectable. This position is sponsored by a two-year national fellowship, but the candidate is subject to mid-term examination after one year, and the hiring for those whose performance can not meet the expectation will not be renewed.
