Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship scheme has been started keeping in view the social background of the candidates for the underprivileged section of the society and to provide them opportunity to assume higher studies and research. The objective of this award is to provide fellowships in the form of financial support to students belonging to SC to pursue higher studies leading to M.Phil & PhD degrees in Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology.

Target Group for Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship: SC scholars who have passed the PG examination in above mentioned subject and who wish to pursue research without JRF of UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must belong to SC category
  • Applicant must have passed the Post Graduate examination.
  • The selection is merit based.
  • Applicant must be registered for M.Phil/PhD. at the time of application.

Financial aid:

  • Fellowship in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering & Technology: Rs.16000/month for first two years; Rs.18000/month for remaining tenure
  • Contingency A: Rs.10000/annum for first two years; Rs.20500/annum for remaining tenure (applicable for Humanities & Social Sciences)
  • Contingency B: Rs.12000/annum for first two years; Rs.25000/annum for remaining tenure (for Sciences and Engg. & Technology)
  • Departmental Assistance: Rs. 3000/annum per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure (for all disciplines)
  • Escorts/Reader assistance: Rs. 2000/month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates (for all disciplines)
  • House Rent Allowance: As per rules of the University/ Institutions (for all discipline)
  • Medical: No separate/fixed medical assistance is provided. However, the Fellow may avail of the medical facilities available in the University/Institution/College.
