Position 1: PostDoc University of Nebraska-Lincoln: We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a recent PhD degree in biochemistry, structural biology, microbiology or a related field to join Prof. Limei Zhang’s research team at the Dept. of Biochemistry and the Redox Biology Center, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA (http://biochem.unl.edu). The research in the Zhang Laboratory focuses on structure-mechanism relationships of metalloproteins involved in response to redox stress in bacterial pathogens. Multi-disciplinary approaches are used in the studies, including synchrotron-radiation-based X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, molecular biology and computational modeling. Experience in protein biochemistry, a demonstrated track record in conducting high quality research and a passion for learning new techniques are required. The Cancer Therapeutics Unit’s exciting goal is to discover high quality small molecule drug candidates and to progress these to clinical trial. All the scientific disciplines are in place to make this possible, including medicinal chemistry, biology, drug metabolism and clinical specialists who focus on new molecular targets emerging from human genome and ground breaking cell biology research.

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr Rob van Montfort’s Hit Discovery and Structural Design Team within the CTU (Ref. 1532662). The Post-doc will be involved in high-throughput X-ray crystallography, fragment-based screening and structure-based drug design and will be responsible for crystallisation, structure determination and structural analysis of protein-ligand complexes from one of the CTU’s drug discovery programmes.

The successful candidate will also be part of the Division of Structural Biology, in which the crystallographers in Dr van Montfort’s team are embedded, and will have access to state of the art crystallisation facilities, in-house X-ray sources and excellent access to synchrotrons.

The successful candidate will interact closely with the biology, computational chemistry and medicinal chemistry teams at the CTU, and will therefore be expected to work across the two sites in Chelsea, London and Sutton, Surrey. Applicants must have a PhD in a biological or physical science, and experience in macromolecular crystallography (to include protein biochemistry, protein crystallisation, & protein crystallography).

Experience in molecular biology, structure-based drug design, and/or biophysics will be an advantage. Starting salary will be in the range £33,740 to £36,285 p.a. inclusive (based on previous experience). Appointment will be on a fixed-term contract for 1 year and benefits from a contributory defined benefit pension scheme and generous leave entitlement.

Position 5: Tenure Track Position Charles Sturt University
Postdoctoral Position in Structure and Folding of Membrane Proteins

A NIH funded postdoctoral position is available in the Valiyaveetil group at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. The Valiyaveetil group investigates the structure and function of ion channels and transporters using a combination of unnatural amino acid mutagenesis, electrophysiology and x-ray crystallography. The group is a part of the Program in Chemical Biology in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.

The NIH funded position is to investigate the structure and folding of membrane proteins using unnatural mutagenesis along with structural and spectroscopic approaches. The position is suitable for a highly motivated candidate with a recent (less than 1 year) Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline. Prior experience in protein folding or structural studies using X-ray crystallography or NMR will be a great asset. Position 10: Postdoctoral Fellow Position Available – PostDoc Univ of Chicago / Northwestern Univ

A joint postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Heather Pinkett (Dept. of Molecular Biosciences) at Northwestern University and Dr. Howard Shuman (Dept. of Microbiology) at University of Chicago available starting March 2016.

The candidate will be a part of a collaborative research team at The University of Chicago and Northwestern University, engineering new methods to study dynamic functional properties of protein complexes. We use a combination of microbiology, x-ray crystallography and biochemistry to study protein structure and function. Our labs are equipped with state-of-the art facilities for molecular biology, protein biochemistry and structure determination. We also have access to nearby Argonne National Labs (APS).

Laboratory
We are seeking a structural biologist/biochemist to join the group of Muthiah Kumaraswami in the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine. We employ a multidisciplinary approach to dissect the mechanisms of bacterial signaling pathways and understand the implications of such signaling pathways in the bacterial pathogenesis. We use a variety of genetic, biochemical, biophysical, structural, and mouse infection methods to identify the novel cellular processes with the long-term goal of targeting these processes for antibiotic development. Some of the key areas we are currently investigating include the bacterial communication system, and the bacterial sensory system for metal and carbohydrate acquisition. The group uses a wide range of techniques that include X-ray crystallography, SAXS, bacterial genetics, biochemical and transcriptome methods, and animal infection studies.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualified candidates will have (or be about to obtain) a Ph.D. degree. The candidate is expected to have experience in protein
chemistry and crystallography. Ideally, the candidate will be familiar with biochemical techniques and analyses. Position 13: Post Doc harvard Medical School
A post-doctoral position is available to study the molecular mechanism for self vs. non-self discrimination by the immune system. We use a combination of structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology and virology to characterize structures and functions of key host molecules that recognize foreign molecules, in particular viral nucleic acids. We also investigate the pathogenesis mechanism by which these sensors trigger an aberrant immune response that leads to auto-inflammatory diseases. Recently, we have also begun our study on transcriptional regulation of the adaptive immune system, where we are looking to understand the molecular mechanism of a mega dalton size transcriptional regulators in the context of T cell development.

Applicants should have received a PhD and have a strong background in structural biology, biochemistry, immunology and/or virology. Computational background in bioinformatics analysis will be also considered.
