PhD scholarship in Assessing life cycle impacts of bio-plastics from dicarboxylic acids at Center for Biosustainability.

A PhD position is available at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) in cooperation with the Department of Management Engineering (DTU Management) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) on “Assessing life cycle impacts of bio-plastics built from dicarboxylic acids”. It will be part of the EU project BioREFINE-2G.

The PhD candidate will (i) draw the baseline of life cycle impact of bio-plastics, (ii) develop methods for including new components in life cycle impact assessments, (iii) do a life cycle impact assessment of chosen bio-plastics (iv) report the findings and outcomes in peer-reviewed publications with the goal of shedding light on if bio-polymers are more environmentally friendly that conventional polymers. (V) The PhD candidate will also have the role as project administrator of an EU funded project.

The successful candidate is a talented, highly skilled, and self-motivating person who enjoys working in an international and interdisciplinary environment. Excellent life cycle assessment knowledge and analytical skills are essential. An engineering or resource management background is highly desirable. Furthermore, previous experience with doing LCA studies required as well as supervision of masters students. Experience in project management is highly desirable. Proficient command in oral and written English communication is a prerequisite.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years for full-time.
