PhD position in biology, ecology, plant sciences Germany 2015

Doctoral Position is available at the Plant Ecology Group of the University of Tübingen. Applicants for the Ph.D. position must hold a M.Sc. or equivalent degree in biology, ecology, plant sciences or environmental sciences with a sound knowledge in plant ecology.

Ideally, the applicants have also previous knowledge in climate impact research and a good knowledge of plants. Furthermore, the position requires experience in designing and conducting ecological field experiments and a sound knowledge of advanced statistics.

The project is part of a consortium entitled DRIeR and funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Sciences. The interdisciplinary consortium composed of hydrologists, social scientists, and ecologists aims at developing indicators and policy measures for meeting the challenges created by increasing frequencies of drought in South-Western Germany.

The ecological subproject relevant for this position will address resistance and resilience of temperate grasslands and forest ecosystems to recurring drought. It involves the establishment of a set of extensive field experiments across Baden-Württemberg and recording the response of vegetation and associated ecosystem functions to drought. The work includes extensive field campaigns during three consecutive growing seasons. The main working place will be Tübingen, a buzzing university town in Southwest Germany. The main working language is English, but a good knowledge of German would be helpful, too.

The position is scheduled for 3 years with an anticipated starting date of March 1st , 2016. Payment is according to the German public tariff (65% TV-L E13).
