A doctoral student position is open in polymer technology oriented towards polymer chemistry at Lunds Tekniska Högskola, Kemiska institutionen, Centrum för analys och syntes. The polymer group at the Department of Chemistry is involved in synthesizing and studying advanced polymer materials for energy devices such as batteries and fuel cells for many years .
Project type: The current PhD research project is mainly focused on the structure and properties of new functional ionic polymer electrolytes. The main goal is to explore new synthetic strategies and recent knowledge concerning how these materials should be molecularly designed in order to efficiently conduct protons in electrochemical systems for the conversion and storage of energy. The experimental work comprises :
- chemical synthesis and
- molecular characterization of new monomers and polymers,
- preparation of functional membranes,
- morphology and membrane properties
- Aplication in fuel cells and batteries.
You will also be assigned to manage instruments at the department and to teaching in basic courses at the Department.
- your research project,
- teaching, research and administrative work
Eligibility/Qualifications
The general eligibility requirement for doctoral studies is a university degree of at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 credits at an advanced level. Furthermore you need a valid university degree at advanced level (MSc) within a relevant study program.
Application Assessment
Employment as a doctoral student can only be granted if you have been accepted to the PhD study program. The selection to this program is based on an assessment of your ability to perform well in and benefit from the program. This is also one of the basic criteria for employment. The assessment considers the following aspects in particular:
1. Documented knowledge and skills relevant to the research project and study results in particularly relevant courses.
2. Ability to work independently and to formulate and solve scientific problems. Such abilities can be demonstrated, for example, in a Master Thesis or in a discussion of scientific problems during a possible interview.
3. Skills in written and oral communication.
4. Other experience relevant to postgraduate studies, such as professional experience.
The candidate preferably has an MSc degree in chemistry with a specialization towards, e.g., polymer, materials or organic chemistry based on a study program that comprises polymer chemistry on the Master level. Previous experience with the synthesis and characterization of polymers, especially ionic polymers, is a merit.
Consideration will also be given to the candidate’s ability to collaborate, commitment and independence. In addition, the pre-condition, ability and competence that the candidate has gained by his/her experience and studies will also be reviewed to assess his/her possibilities to carry out successful research studies. Very good knowledge in English is also a requirement.
Additional information
The research position is limited to four years. It can be extended by a maximum of one year if the doctoral student has taught, supervised or performed other departmental duties.
