The UGent-EA08 Department of Electrical energy, Systems and Automation invites an application for a PhD position within the field of Modelling Biomedical Systems (Engineering) to be filled asap. This project is in close collaboration with Prof. Eric Derom at the University Hospital of Ghent and with Prof Gerd Vandersteen at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

We offer a challenging interdisciplinary research project in the field of biomedical engineering. You will design, develop, implement and validate a new device for respiratory function testing, quantification of respiratory parameters (pressure, flow, resistance, compliance) and classification of patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Qualifications
- You read and speak Dutch fluently, and / OR you read and speak scientific English fluently and you have good communication skills (presentations, reporting, writing papers).

- You can work independently, yet you are a good team player.
- You are willing to guide thesis students and guide laboratory projects related to your work (modelling, identification, control)
Position: The position offered is the equivalent to a doctoral scholarship for 1 year. The candidate is expected to submit project proposals for an individual scholarship (www.IWT.be) to complete his PhD in our department (up to 4 years); the first incoming deadline for IWT is expected in beginning of september 2015. Support is provided for submitting this kind of proposals.
