Plasma Operations Specialist (Physics and Engineering), Australia (2015)

Plasma Operations Specialist: A position is available for research engineer or academic at the Research School of Physics and Engineering (RSPE), ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences to join the Plasma Research Laboratory.

General details

The candidate’s major responsibility will involve –

  • to ensure that the plasma facilities (the H-1 heliac – a mid-sized stellarator), and the MAGPIE device (a linear magnetized plasma source) are routinely available to staff and students for experimental research.
  • to contribute substantially to the design and construction of the high-power successor machine to MAGPIE.
  • to contribute to the research activities of the Facility and to instruct and mentor undergraduate and graduate students as required.

This is a initially a 2 year appointment, with the possibility of extension upon the availability of further funding.

Position Location: Research School of Physics and Engineering represents Australia’s largest University based research and teaching activity in the physics discipline. This School is home to a number of major national research facilities and hundreds of academics, technical staff and students who form the Schools greatest asset, its people. The research encompasses a large number or areas from quantum science to string theory.

The ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences covers all areas of scientific endeavour, like
