Postdoctoral position in cellular and molecular neuroscience at Institutionen för integrativ medicinsk biologi: The selected candidate will work within the research project ”Molecular basis of neurodegeneration and neuroprotective mechanisms,” led by Daniel Marcellino at the Department of Integrative Medical Biology (IMB) at Umeå University, Sweden.
General Introduction:
- IMB is a multidisciplinary department with a strong focus in Neuroscience research, particularly on sensorimotor control, brain repair and cognitive functions.
- The actual research will be based on the use of both cellular and animal models with the goal of improving our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, which in the long run will lead to better diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
- The project relates in particular to investigations into the neuroprotective effects provided by sigma-1 receptor ligands in both cellular and animal models of neurodegenerative disease. The candidate will predominantly use a combination of cellular and molecular techniques including histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, mRNA- and protein-related techniques together with imaging techniques.
The candidate must have a solid knowledge in cellular and molecular neuroscience and a strong interest to investigate the molecular basis behind neurodegenerative diseases.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- The candidate must have a doctoral degree.
- Priority will be given to those applicants that have defended their PhD thesis within the last three years.
- The candidate must have a PhD within the relevant field of cellular and molecular biology; have an adequate knowledge within the field of neuroscience, as well as a solid experience within confocal-based microscopy.
- Past practical experience in working with primary cell cultures and animal experimental work and experience with gene expression analysis are also valued.
- Additional training for in vivo animal behavioral experiments will be offered, as required.
- The applicant is required to be fluent in both oral and written English.
Application Procedure: The application must contain:
- A short cover letter (about one A4 page) with a description of the applicant’s research experience, research interests and current work and the Applicant’s motivation to apply for the postdoc position.
- A full CV, including the date of the Thesis defense, title of Thesis, previous academic appointments, academic title, current position, academic awards, and a complete list of publications.
- Names and contact information of two references.
A personal interview will be used to assess the applicant’s qualifications.
The position is for two years, with the starting date upon agreement.
