POSITION SUMMARY: This position is based within the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center (JPNATC) AIIMS, a unit of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and will manage the Australia-India Trauma Systems Collaboration, a multifaceted program of work which aims to reduce the burden of injury in India and Australia through the development and piloting of improved systems of care. This project is externally funded by the Department of Science & Technology (G.O.I.) and is being led in India by Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center, AIIMS, New Delhi. The Program Manager’s main role is work with the equivalent Program Manager in Australia to effectively manage the international collaboration responsible for the delivery of the expected project outcomes (the key responsibilities are described below). The incumbent will report to the Principal Investigator in India and will work closely with all team members to ensure that activities are met within scheduled timeframes, utilising available resources, and to a high standard.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the leadership of the Investigators and within existing restraints, manage the program of work, known as the Australia-India Trauma Systems Collaboration, including agreed requirements in terms of integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, stakeholder, risk and procurement management.
  • During the life of the project, influence, manage and deliver (within limits of resource control) key aspects of a number of program initiatives, including:
    • the establishment, implementation and trialing of a trauma registry in the Indian study sites, and protocols for data collection, preventable mortality and long-term outcomes;
    • a pre-hospital observational study to evaluate the effect of pre-hospital notification on early preventable trauma mortality in four Indian trauma centers;
    • a prospective observational study to evaluate the effect video-conferencing telemedicine advice for initial resuscitation in rural locations in India and Australia;
    • a prospective observational study to evaluate the effect of trauma quality improvement training and development on in-hospital preventable trauma mortality in trauma centers in India;
    • Conduct a randomized control trial to evaluate the effect of a rehabilitation prescription on functional outcomes and quality of life after injury (India and Australia).
  •  Produce reports to the funding body in a timely manner and to a high standard, as required by the funding agreement. 2 | P a g e
  • Lead and/or manage meetings and workshops with Indian or Australian participants.
  • Liaise with Indian or Australian stakeholders, and build and manage appropriate ongoing relationships.
  • Assist in the publication of findings, within the scope of the limits of the funding agreement.
  • Appropriately supervise and mentor team members and post-doctoral students.
  • Other duties as directed by the Principal Investigator India, having regard to the constraints of the Program.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • PhD in public health, clinical health, social sciences, biostatics or computer science as well as substantial high level leadership experience.
  • Experience in working in an international research or healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a research profile and scholarly publications leading to improvements in healthcare.
  • Experience in leading and managing large stakeholder groups, including stakeholder expectations, and effectively communicating with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including the capability to develop effective professional relationships with all levels of medical practitioners and other health professionals in hospitals and within diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated project leadership in a complex environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high quality reports.
  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation, initiative and an ability to plan and organize work to meet competing deadlines and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Evidence of experience in effectively mentoring and leading other project team members and/or post-doctoral students.
  • Experienced working within a hospital environment
  • High level interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, resilience and an ability to be sensitive to stakeholders; using discretion, tact and confidentiality where necessary
  • An ability to work and communicate with people across all levels, fields and nationalities.
  • Capable of working independently with minimum supervision, and as part of a team as required.
