The Scientific Computing Research Unit (SCRU) invites highly motivated individuals to apply for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.
The successful applicants may select from one of the following research areas: a) Enzyme Reaction Dynamics as applied to Glycobiology b) Bioinformatics Applications in Glycobiology c) Informatics Code Development as Applied to the Life Sciences d) Systems Biology of Cancer Academic Conditions:
Applicants must have: • a PhD degree (achieved within 2 years of this application) in an area of Scientific Computing, Bioinformatics or Structural Biology. The following would be advantageous: • undergraduate training in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Bioinformatics/Computer Science with significant exposure to Physics/Computer Science/ Applied Mathematics; • excellent programming skills in Python and Fortran 90/C++ (with CUDA and/or OpenCL), • experience in Software design and • evidence of a publication record General Conditions: • applicants may not have held any prior professional or academic posts; • successful applicants will be required to comply with the university’s policies and practices for the postdoctoral sector;
The fellowships do not include any benefits or allowances, and • the successful candidate will be required to register as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UCT in January 2016 Value and tenure: The fellowship is valued at R200 000 per annum. The fellowship may be renewed for a second year depending on satisfactory progress and mutual agreement.
