Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in data mining/analytics to extract useful knowledge and predictive patterns on plant pest and disease occurrence from massive quantities of crowdsourced data collected by our project collaborator Growing Interactive (GI).

GI is a producer of leading online software and apps that gardeners and small-scale farms use to plan the edible crops they grow and achieve increased levels of success. Strong technical and interpersonal skills are required.

The post is one of three postdoctoral posts associated with the Innovate UK and BBSRC funded project “Crowd-Sourced Prediction of Plant Pest and Disease Occurrence using Mobile Apps”. The post will be held in the leading Computer Science department at the University of York (ranked 7th overall, 5th for impact and 6th for environment in the UK by the latest REF assessment) and will be based on the new £750 million Heslington East campus.

The post is initially available for one year from 1st October 2015 and is full time, but there are plans to apply for a follow-on project.

The salary will be £30,434 per annum on Grade 6 of the University’s salary scales.
