Careers in the Plant Sciences at Institute of São Paulo State – Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. General Information: A postdoctoral position funded by the São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) is opened to recently graduated doctors (maximum of seven years of obtaining the title) focusing on the pre-breeding and germination of plant seeds of Acrocomia aculeata e A. totai.

The scholarship work will be part of a thematic project to be developed at the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (SP). The scholarship requires exclusive dedication to the research project.
Qualifications/Requirementsknowing that the macaw palm species presents incipient domestication and very limited scientific knowledge in the subject, especially in aspects related to the germination of seeds that present dormancy, the main goal of the project is to obtain a large number of seedlings in order to implement large-scale experiments.
The candidate for the scholarship must meet the following requirements:
a) A doctorate in the field of Genetics and Plant Breeding;
b) Significant scientific production in indexed journals or in conferences related to culturing;
c) Proven experience in the selection of palm trees in natural conditions,
d) Traveling availability for plant evaluation and fruit collection in the natural areas of occurrence, and for field experiments installations.
e) Experience with quantitative genetics;
f) Experience in dormancy breaking activities of palm trees;
g) Experience with nursering practices from seedling stage until the transfering of seedlings to the open field;
h) Demonstrate experience in design, deployment and conductment of large-scale field experiments;
Responsibilities:The post-doc on this project will be responsible for 1) planning and conducting field work, 2) planning and implementing the activities related to the germination of the Acrocomia 3) macaúba seedlings growth 4) field experiment Installation and field evaluation of macaw palm plant 5) statistical analysis 6) preparation and dissemination of scientific articles.
