Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in immunology – (Ref.nr. 15/04206) at the Department of Food Safety and Infection Biology in the field of immunology for 2 years.
Department of Food Safety and Infection Biology consists of three sections; Section of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Section of Food Safety, and section for microbiology, immunology and parasitology.
The institute’s main tasks is to provide research-based teaching of veterinary and animal care students, and conducting research at a high international level, in the areas of food safety and and animal health. In addition, it devotes considerable effort in connection with the various service and advisory functions institute has for public and private actors.
The Institute is located at NMBU Veterinary Science at Adamstuen in Oslo
Project
The appointee will work on the project “Detection of Antibodies two bacterial pathogens in salmon by multiplex serology”. The project aims to identify immunodominant antigens and produce these using recombinant DNA technology for use in detecting antibodies. It will develop methods for the detection of antibodies in both serum / plasma as mucus from gill and intestine.
The project was initiated by the department and involves a collaboration with several ongoing projects.
The main objective of the project is to establish new methods for measurement of humoral responses of salmon during infections and after vaccination
Responsibilities
- development of new methods for measurement of humoral immune response in Atlantic salmon
- establishment of methods for measuring the specific antibody response against bacterial pathogens in salmon using multiplex serology and recombinant proteins.
There will be extensive cooperation with ongoing projects dealing with characterization of pathogens and vaccines sponsors. There is a wide infection biologically and immunologically research by section and a relatively large surface contact with the national and international research.
The research work will culminate in publications in international journals and it is expected that the candidate will contribute to apply for research funding related to the project.
Whoever employee will have responsibility for daily laboratory operations and will help to guide the master and PhD students. The section is responsible for teaching veterinary students and animal care students in immunology, and up to 10% of the score will be used for teaching.
