Researcher position is available at in Nanopatterned Graphene Gas Sensors at DTU Nanotech. The graphene flagship is a large european research project focusing on development of groundbreaking technology based on graphene and other two-dimensional materials, in collaboration with leading European Companies.
About the University: DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines (electronics, mechanics, chemistry, optics, fluidics, medical and biotechnology) as well as applications. DTU Nanotech depends heavily on the two state-of-the-art facilities, DTU Danchip (1300 m2 cleanroom) and DTU CEN – Center for Electron Nanoscopy. The graphene cluster at DTU Nanotech is rapidly growing with activities oriented towards basic and applied research, experimental, industrial and theoretical research alike, and with strong international collaborations. DTU hosts the Center of Excellence CNG (Center of Nanostructured Graphene) with 30+ researchers and students covering both fabrication, measurement and theory of graphene devices.
Responsibilities and tasks
DTU wish to employ a postdoctoral researcher for 2 years to perform research in the field of nanopatterned graphene based gas sensors. One of the main hypotheses is that patterning (e.g. a graphene nanomesh, patterned gates, or structured doping) of the graphene or otherwise spatial modulation can lead to higher sensitivity, as well as providing a means of achieving selectivity.
The target is to distinguish NO2 and NH3 against other background gases and varying ambient conditions with a compact, cheap graphene based sensor, which can be reset, can be run in continuous monitoring mode, and which uses only little power.
The work involves high density nanopatterning and processing of graphene as well as integration in field effect devices using nano- and microfabrication. Test materials and devices will be characterized with AFM, Raman spectroscopy and Terahertz conductance mapping developed at DTU, and characterized electrically at room and elevated temperatures, in different gas environments.
The results will be used to make prototype devices for further testing. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with high profile European research groups within the framework of the Graphene Flagship project as well as the Danish sensor company Skov A/S. The job involves supervision of Ph.D. and master students.
