Postdoctoral Research Scientist (f/m) with specialisation in physics/laser engineering (Reference No. EM 2015/27). The research will focus on the time-resolved study of evolving, local electronic structure in liquid solution and at interfaces using soft X-ray spectroscopy and pump-probe methodologies. These methodologies will be applied to understand chemical mechanisms underlying biological processes and the activities of functional materials.
Job description
- Construction of a high-power infrared optical parametric chirped pulse amplifier (OPCPA) laser system
- Interface the constructed OPCPA system to a high harmonic generation chamber
- Assistance with the development and commissioning of a soft X-ray monochromator system
- Development of non-linear optical schemes for the generation of tunable, few-cycle IR, visible and UV laser pulses
- Assistance with the construction of laser beam lines for the generation of ultrashort vacuum ultraviolet pulses
Your qualifications
- PhD in physics or engineering with a focus on non-linear optics and laser development
- Demonstration of extensive experience with the design, maintenance and operation of ultrafast, high-power laser systems through publications in peer-reviewed journals and employment references
- Demonstration of experience with optical parametric amplifiers and the generation, characterisation and delivery of few-cycle laser pulses through publications in peer-reviewed jounals and employment references
Applicants should send a letter of motivation, a detailed CV, a list of publications and the contact details of at least three referees.
Closing Date: 31.07.2015
What we offer
Fixed term contract for 3 years.
The employment contract is based on contracts for the German civil service (TVöD-Bund).
