Postdoc position in RNA BIOINFORMATICS & CANCER at Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Germany. The department is seeking a highly motivated and independent postdoctoral fellow with significant and published experience in the area of bioinformatics.
The position will be part of a bridging unit between the division of “RNA Biology & Cancer” at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg and the division of “Cancer Research” at the DKTK partner site at the University Hospital Freiburg – both headed by Dr. Sven Diederichs.
Introduction: The core project of the postdoctoral fellow will be the integration of sequencing data from own as well as published sources to answer meaningful and fundamental questions in the area of cancer biology and gene regulation. We believe that the vast resources supplied by consortia like TCGA or ICGC (DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq) combined with important and specific questions and functional datasets will allow fundamentally new insights into the interaction and regulation of genes, RNAs and proteins in normal and malignant cells.
Project work: Our focus will lie on lung cancer, but pipelines established for lung cancer can then also be exploited for pan-cancer analyses. The postdoctoral fellow will work independently in our group based on his or her expertise and in close collaboration with molecular biologists from the wet lab who will test hypotheses generated from bioinformatical analyses also experimentally. New projects within the focus area of the lab can also be developed and supported to allow the growth into scientific maturity and independence. Additional bioinformatics expertise is available through cooperation partners in Freiburg.
Requirements: Applicants should be highly motivated and independent bioinformaticians to lead research projects on the molecular aberrations in lung cancer with creativity, ambition and team spirit. Experience in bioinformatical sequence analysis and integration is a prerequisite. The applicant should work efficiently, goal-oriented and accurate, have a deep interest in research and must be proficient in English.
How to Apply: This fully funded position will be granted initially for two years with the possibility of extension. If you are interested, please submit your CV, publication list, university degrees, contact details for at least three references as well as a description of your bioinformatical experience by email tos.diederichs[at]dkfz.de.
