The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at the ETH Zurich is planning to open a position for a Scientific Researcher with experience in Engineering Seismology.
Requirements: The successful candidate will have a PhD in Seismology, Geophysics, Engineering Seismology or a related Engineering discipline. Excellent programming and communication skills are a prerequisite, as is fluency in English. Knowledge of German or French would be regarded positively. We expect a team-oriented and motivated candidate. The position should be filled by February 1, 2016 (negotiable). The duration of the position will be for 3 years, with possibility of extension.
Tasks / responsibilities: The core duties include
- site-effect evaluation from observations and by numerical modeling,
- the characterisation of seismic stations using active and passive seismic field methods,
- the design and operation of temporary seismic networks,
- the analysis, interpretation and documentation of earthquake recordings, and
- issues related to soil-structure interaction.
The successful candidate will be part of a team dedicated to an interdisciplinary research program covering seismic hazard assessment, strong-motion seismology, microzonation studies including non-linear phenomena, vulnerability analysis of buildings, and earthquake damage and risk scenarios for Switzerland.
