Post doc molecular medical microbiology/ virology: At the Department of Viroscience we study how the interactions between viruses, human and animal hosts and environment, and changes thereof impact on global human health. Understanding virome diversity and evolution is an essential and increasingly important area of expertise, and focus of a recently funded H2020 project COMPARE (www.compare-europe.eu).

You will participate in the H2020 COMPARE project, develop an ambitious Next Generation Sequencing research agenda aligned with the goals of the COMPARE project and our department, contribute to the research profile of the department by writing grant applications and papers, and by providing training and support of PhD’s and technicians in data analysis.

The Department of Viroscience (http://virosciencelab.org/) at Erasmus MC employs more than 130 persons of different disciplines and runs an extensive experimental research program on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of viral infections of global importance for human and animal health. The two research pilars focus on viral infections in the population at risk for severe consequences (immunocompromised, elderly, young), and on emerging (zoonotic) viral diseases. As WHO collaborating centre and national and European reference center for influenza, emerging viral infections, and measles, our work is internationally focussed. The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art BSL2 and 3 laboratories, and clinical and experimental virology labs, in which all the virology, molecular biology, pathology, and immunology techniques necessary for these projects are operational. Erasmus MC has extensive capacity for NGS on multiple platforms combined into a genomic core facility coupled with decentralised platforms for experiental work.

Requirements Qualifications and skills

Being able to present a certificate of good conduct is a condition for the appointment.

Terms of employment
The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.794,- (scale 11), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
