The Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the area of Plant Molecular Biology, specifically involving the roles of plant hormones in reproductive development of legumes.
The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Physiology or related discipline. Substantial specialized laboratory experience in molecular biology, functional characterization of genes, and experience in using bio-informatics tools is necessary with 0-2 years postdoctoral experience. A strong track record of refereed journal publications is desired. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting research objectives as outlined in specific research proposals. This includes designing experiments, research methods and protocols and conducting complex lab experiments and procedures (functional characterization of genes, vector construction, cloning, plant transformation, bioinformatics investigations, and statistical analyses).
In addition, the candidate will act as a resource person for the lab; assist in the supervision of technologists, students, other lab members and scientific collaborators; consult with researchers to learn and develop research program objectives; co-author scientific manuscripts based on laboratory results; provide guidance in the purchase of equipment, consumables and specialty items for the lab; contribute to the writing of research grant proposals; compile research findings; write and contribute to interim and final reports for funding agencies; meet with representatives from funding agencies and scientific collaborators; and perform other related duties as required.
The minimum starting stipend for this position is $45,000 per annum, and will be commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate. This position is available immediately and the appointment is for two years with possibility for extension.
