The position is Academy of Finland funded, full time, starting January 2016 the latest, and for two years with an option for continuation.Imaging cellular mechanisms of embryonic hair and tooth development
We use a combination of transgenic mouse models and organ culture methods together with confocal fluorescence imaging to investigate the molecular and cellular basis of epithelial morphogenesis (see e.g. Ahtiainen et al., Developmental Cell 2014, 28:588-602). The project aims to continue this research on the cellular aspects of embryonic hair development and also, using similar tissue imaging based approaches, understand the cellular basis of the early development of the tooth.
Desired skills and experience:
A strong background in cell and molecular biology and/or developmental biology
Skills in hands-on mouse work, transgenic/knockout mouse models
Good written and spoken English as well as the desire to work in a team-oriented environment
The research takes place at the Institute of Biotechnology (BI), an independent research institute of University of Helsinki located at the Viikki campus 10 km north from the center of Helsinki. We offer a position in an internationally renowned multidisciplinary research environment. The group is a part of Academy of Finland funded Center of Excellence in Experimental and Computational Developmental Biology. You will have the opportunity to learn and be a part of research using utilizing leading edge imaging methodologies.
