A post–doctoral position, investigating the cellular events that control cell wall deposition during cytokinesis in plants, is available immediately in the laboratory of Georgia Drakakaki. This project aims at identifying post Golgi trafficking pathways involved in the transport and deposition of cell wall components in Arabidopsis during cytokinesis.
Complementary approaches will be used; classical genetics, novel inhibitors of endomembrane trafficking and vesicle isolation coupled with proteomic analysis. Mechanisms of cell plate maturation will be investigated with the aid of our recently identified compound, Endosidin 7. Applicants should have a strong background in cell biology and genetics.
Experience in fluorescence confocal microscopy, molecular cloning, protein biochemistry and plant transformation are essential. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and be highly motivated and productive. Applicants with a proven record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and strong verbal and written communication skills will be preferred. UC Davis provides outstanding research facilities including state of the art high resolution confocal microscopes and a highly stimulating environment allowing to conduct cutting edge research and develop career opportunities.
This position is available immediately for one year, with a possibility of renewal for up to 3 years based on performance and continued sponsor support. Salary is based on experience and qualifications according to UCD guidelines and includes Postdoctoral Scholars Benefits Plan. Interested applicants should send via e-mail (1) a cover letter stating their research experience, motivation, interests and possible starting date, (2) their CV, and (3) the names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of three references to Dr. Georgia Drakakaki (gdrakakaki@ucdavis.edu). The subject line: “PD Application” should be included.
