Two Postdoctoral position in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at the Rockefeller University. The Rockefeller University is a world-renowned center for research and graduate education in the biomedical sciences, chemistry and biophysics.

Position 1: Postdoctoral position in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience: The Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at the Rockefeller University is seeking a highly motivated and multi-talented postdoctoral associate, preferably a recent Ph.D. graduate in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, or chemical biology, to work on Drug Discovery projects related to the neurodegeneration of the Central Nervous System such as Alzheimer’s disease. Candidates must have an extensive knowledge and experience in biological assay development, High-throughput screening (HTS), in addition to synthetic medicinal chemistry and chemical biology, and have published his/her work in reputed journals ideally in the Neuroscience field. Prior knowledge and experience with computational programs to perform in silico screening are highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be responsible for developing HTS assays, perform HTS to identify hit small molecule compounds, design, synthesize and examine new analogs of the hit compounds, and perform studies for the target validation. The candidate must be able to independently design and perform all the studies described above, and analyze results and SAR data to improve drug-like properties of the synthesized compounds. Suitable candidates are expected to perform some in vitro studies involving ELISA assay and cell related work, as well as basic mouse work for determining brain permeability and drug efficacies for example.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, a summary of Ph.D. and postdoctoral research, list of publications, and contact information for 2-3 references in a PDF file by e-mail to Subhash C. Sinha, PhD, Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, The Rockefeller University, 1230 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065. Apply to: ssinha@rockefeller.edu.  The position is available March 1, 2016.

Position 2: Postdoctoral position in Systems Neuroscience

A postdoctoral position is available at The Rockefeller University, under the guidance of Charles Gilbert and Winrich Freiwald and under support of the BRAIN initiative, for interdisciplinary work on the cortical mechanisms of object recognition and the dynamics of information processing.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: The experiments will combine visual psychophysics, fMRI, large scale high density electrode array chronic recordings and optogenetic manipulation, and are tightly integrated with modeling work.  Using this integrated approach, we will determine how active vision affects information processing at different levels of the visual cortical pathway and the effective connectivity between these levels.   The project will address fundamental questions of brain function applicable to the brain as a whole.

How to Apply:  Candidates should, ideally, have a Ph.D. in neuroscience with a strong background in physiological and analytic techniques.  Interested individuals should send a c.v. and the names of three references to Dr. Charles Gilbert (gilbert@rockefeller.edu with a subject line “systems neuroscience postdoc position”).

The position is available immediately, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
