GDF-Suez Chuck Edwards Memorial Fellowship

Trigen-Cinergy Solutions (Suez) established through the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, an endowment to support energy conversion education at the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

The fellowship is executed by the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE).

Eligibility:
  • Proposals are requested form engineering graduate students and their faculty advisors to seek funding to pursue new research in the area of energy systems and devices to enable quantifiable energy savings and/or carbon dioxide emission reduction when compared to the performance of existing systems and devices.
  • Research areas: waste heat utilization, carbon dioxide sequestration, absorption cooling, energy system optimization products and other technologies with a quantifiable potential to reduce energy consumption and/or carbon dioxide emissions.

Fellowship value:

  • $25,000/annum
  • One fellowship award will be awarded will go through the end of the 2019 Spring Semester.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Each fellow will present the research results at a technical conference or submit a scientific publication.
  • Year-end progress report must be submitted to the Suez director.
  • The intention of the fellowship is to start new research directions

Proposal Format:

  • Proposal must not be more than a 3 page description of the student’s research and must identify how it addresses some aspect of a forward looking solution in their area of research.
  • The proposal must include the following, all within the three-page limit:
  • A paragraph abstract describing the research plan;
  • Brief description of the problem and relevant background;
  • Proposed research plan;
  • A paragraph describing plans to present the results and efforts to further fund the research.
  • CV of the student and the advising faculty member (each not to exceed 2 pages), should be appended to the proposal narrative.
  • Applications must be submitted as a single pdf document to Mary Baugher at mbaugher@umd.edu.
  • The advising faculty member must submit a separate signed reference letter (in pdf format), to Mrs. Baugher
