50 Research Fellowships (2019–2020) at Harry Ransom Center US

The Harry Ransom Center is offering more than 50 fellowships for projects that require substantial on-site use of the Center’s collections during 2019–2020.

Reasearch Areas: The fellowships support research in all themes of the humanities, like literature, photography, film, art, the performing arts, music, and cultural history.

Application deadline: NOVEMBER 15, 2018, 5 P.M. CST

Available Fellowships Include:

  1. One- To Three-Month Fellowships: For Postdocs

Stipend: $3,000 per month

These fellowships are available for post-doctoral or independent scholars whose projects need extensive use of the Ransom Center’s collections.

  1. Travel Stipends

Allowance: $1,200 (Domestic travel) and $1,700 (International travel)

Travel stipends are available for post-doctoral or independent scholars whose projects requirement is less than one month’s use of the Center’s collections. Travel stipends may not be combined with other Ransom Center fellowships.

  1. Dissertation Fellowships: For Graduates

Stipend: $1,500

Dissertation fellowships are available for graduate students whose doctoral dissertations need use of the Center’s collections.

Eligibility

  1. United States citizens and overseas nationals are eligible to apply.
  2. Previous recipients of Ransom Center fellowships are eligible to reapply only after two full fellowship cycles have passed.
  3. Candidates for one- to three-month fellowships and travel stipends must have a PhD or be an independent researcher with a significant record of achievement. If the Ph.D. is anticipated to complete soon, the proposal and recommendation letters must clearly show completion by June 1, 2017.
  4. Candidates for dissertation fellowships must be doctoral students engaged in dissertation research at the time of application.

How to Apply

A complete application must includes a three-page proposal and letters of recommendation (one or two) as outlined below. These documents as PDF files must be uploaded to the Ransom Center’s online application system by the application deadline.
