Uppsala University invites applications for a PhD position in Inorganic Chemistry.
Starting date: 2017-06-01 or by appointment, temporary position.
Requirements:
- The Doctoral project is focused on electrochemical characterization of new metallic materials.
- The project is a part of a partnership project, aiming as the development and characterization of new types of high-entropy alloys and applications thereof, currently in progress within the Inorganic program at the Department of Chemistry.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- This PhD project aims at electrochemical studies as well as manufacturing of new high-entropy alloys.
- The work will involve investigations of the electrochemical behaviour of different alloys with particular focus on their corrosion resistances.
- The latter studies will be carried out using a new advanced instrument for studies of local electrochemical reactions on surfaces.
- The possibility to carry out electrochemical syntheses of alloys composed of a number of elements will also be investigated. Other characterisation techniques including e.g. SEM, TEM, XPS and elemental analysis will also be used in the project.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must be highly motivated and interested in research in chemistry in general, and electrochemistry in particular.
- Applicant must hold Master’s in Materials Chemistry, Material Physics or equivalent.
- Applicant is expected to have good knowledge of electrochemistry, materials chemistry as well as general inorganic chemistry.
- Applicants having experience of experimental work within electrochemistry, corrosion and/or electrochemical synthesis will be counted as a merit.
- The applicant must be willing to work in an international and interdisciplinary research environment including both individual tasks as well as different collaboration projects.
