PhD Fellowship Bioinformatics (Non-coding RNA): PhD Fellowship in Bioinformatics at the Center for non-coding RNA in Technology and Health (RTH) of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences , University of Copenhagen.

Duration: The position is limited to three years.

Overview

  1. Within BrainStem patient-specific neurons are derived from induced pluripotent stem cells obtained from skin fibroblasts to study Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases with the long term aims of patient specific treatment and drug development.
  2. The studies will take outset in neurodegeneration caused by specific mutations and the disease processes will be addressed at the molecular level by both experimental and computational approaches.

General job description

Your key tasks as a PhD fellow at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND) are to:

  1. Manage, carry through and conclude your research projects
  2. Actively participate in PhD courses
  3. Write scientific articles and finalise your PhD thesis
  4. Participate in international congresses
  5. Conduct a research stay at an institution abroad
  6. Teach and disseminate your research

Required qualifications  

The applicant should hold professional as well as personal skills and qualifications as stated below:

  1. A completed master degree in bioinformatics, computer science or in a similar area
  2. General background knowledge of biological areas of genome structure and transcriptomes
  3. Algorithmic insight
  4. Solid experience with transcriptome analysis including RNA-seq analysis
  5. Strong experience with script languages such as Perl or Python (or similar)
  6. Strong experience with the Linux/Unix environment, command lines and shell scripting
  7. Good interpersonal skills
  8. Excellent in English both in writing and speech

Candidates fulfilling one or more of the following qualifications will be prioritised:

  1. Strong experience in at least one of the following programming languages: C, C++ or Java
  2. Experience with transcriptomic data from neurodegenerative diseases
  3. Experience with RNA folding analysis
  4. Key criteria for the assessment of candidates
  5. The grade point average achieved in relevant University degrees
  6. Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD programme
  7. Previous publications (if any)
  8. Relevant work experience
  9. Other professional activities
  10. Language skills
